Developmental editing a comprehensive, high-level review of a manuscript that addresses structural, thematic, and content-related issues. It should be conducted during the first phase of editing. It focuses on big-picture elements like pacing, character development, plot holes, and tone rather than grammar or spelling. The goal is to provide a roadmap for strengthening the manuscript through an editorial summary and comments.
